Idrigill Point September 2009.

Date: Friday 4th September 2009
Distance: 16.7km

The end of a week on Skye – what a washout. It was so damp we considered using mold and mildew remover in addition to reproofing spray on the waterproofs.

Another poor day forecast but the west of the island looked brighter so we took ourselves off to Orbost for a walk to Idrigill Point.

Park at NG 257 432 – a farmyard with organic produce on sale.

There’s a Right of Way sign directing you down the road past Orbost House to Loch Bharcasaig. There’s a view over Loch Bracadale and Wiay towards Fiskavaig.

The forest track becomes a path and climbs up to Beinne na Moine – views S to Rum and Canna:

Loch Bracadale:

The cliffs S of Talisker and Preshal Beag (hexagonal basalt columns here):

Peacock butterfly on Devil’s Bit Scabious:

Simple walk out to Idrigill Point.

MacLeod’s Maidens:

Puffball Fungi:

RAF intruding:

MacLeod’s Maidens again:

The rest of Skye being rained on (about the 52nd consecutive day)

Broom Moth Caterpillar – sure signal of summer’s end:

Fox Moth caterpillar:

Bog Asphodel seed-heads:

A reasonable walk given the poor weather elsewhere.
