Date: Friday 26th December 2014
Boxing Day and although the forecast was not quite the mouth-watering quality of the 25th it still looked good.
An icy drive up to Monzie and then set off up the trade route up Carn Liath. A thin layer of snow only so no need for ice axes or other gear through the day.
Started a wee bit before dawn – sunrise was occluded by cloud.
The light was building as we ascended Carn Liath.
Views build to the south.
Up to Carn Liath without incident.
Headed off to Braigh Coire Chruinn-Bhalgain – followed the snaking arm of Carn Liath with the best sun of the day.
Some nice snow shapes – this odd little curl of snow was the best.
From the bealach started up the 300m ascent of Braigh Coire Chruinn-Bhalgain – the views back to Carn Liath are the best of the group for me.
Fife and Angus were under a fog inversion.
To the north the ‘Gorms were looking a bit gloomy.
The expanse to the west is rather lacking in feature from here.
We headed off the SW arm of Braigh Coire Chruinn-Bhalgain – an easy amble before 1km of heather bashing to Creag-choinnich Lodge and the track back to Monzie.
From here a quick transit back to the car – with a number of black grouse seen at Monzie.
