Date: Saturday-Sunday 8th-9th April 2017
Participants: Us
Weather: Nice Saturday, breezy. A bit cloudier sunday
Distance: 22.3 + 27.1km
Ascent: 1130 + 580m

Parked at Glenmore and walked up trails over Utsi’s Bridge out to the Chalamain. Had a nice view of one red squirrel on the way.

Dropped into Lairig Ghru and then wandered south, saw one peregrine hunting under Lurcher’s Crag. Impressive clifflines on either side of the pass.

Had lunch at the Pools of Dee, sunny with a cooling breeze.

Headed south, H got close to a pair of ptarmigan.

Pass opens out S of the Pools with nice views into the coires of Braeriach and Sgor an Lochain Uaine.

Headed up the Tailors’ Burn to reach the ridge of Carn a Mhaim, headed up from there (passed by Mark Nisbet).

Good views from the munro, had another break.

Dropped down the SMC route, forded the burn and headed on to find a pitch spot at NO 02650 93814. Nice views up to Sron Riach from the Luibeg.

Pitch:

Sunset smeared out behind cloud. Quiet and still night with quite a lot of condensation in the Scarp.

Up and moving for 0900. A few black grouse around near Derry Lodge. A great view of a couple of male crossbills (one singing to start).

Noted a couple of pitch sites heading north around NO 043 940 (ant hill as well), and at NO 04255 94972.

North to Beinn Mheadhoin:

Continued up the glen, cloud behind and sun in front. Good views to the Hutchison Hut.

Skeins of geese all weekend. At the summit of Lairig an Laoigh there were 3 Golden Eagles circling, perhaps looking at geese.

Marched on to Fords of Avon with lunch there.

A brisk stroll back between Bynack More and Creag Mhor, becoming cloudier and windier.

A couple of cresties between Ryvoan and Glenmore (again song heard).

Raining for the last 15 minutes but back to the car without waterproofs.
